What is e-Conveyancing and how will it affect you?

E-Conveyancing is a National System that is being implemented throughout Australia by PEXA – Property Exchange Australia.

It is an electronic system that aims to provide an online service to Financial Institutions, Solicitors & Conveyancers, Land Registries and State Revenue Departments to complete property transactions and lodgement of dealings electronically.

Most of the major banks are currently transacting using PEXA with more financial institutions to come on board.

What does this mean for you?

Once Contracts have been exchanged on your sale or purchase, your Solicitor or Licensed Conveyancer will be able to liaise online directly with your Bank, the NSW Office of State Revenue and Land Titles Office to arrange settlement, payment of duties and lodge documents relating to changes in property ownership and interests.

It will reduce the delay in receiving your proceeds of sale after settlement, as settlement funds are disbursed in real time. Currently you must wait 3 business days for cheques to clear before you access your proceeds of sale. Change of ownership is done at the same time and therefore the current change of ownership processing time is eliminated.
